Sun Serpent Reissues 40armboy's Capricious 1999 Debut
Sun Serpent is proud to help celebrate the resurrection of 40armboy by adding their 1999 debut "Survival & Basic Knowledge" to our ongoing Reissue Series.
The songs that comprise 40armboy's debut release were conceived & recorded at various studios between 1995-1998 and showcase a variety of contrasting musical styles. The 1995 sessions, featuring "Image Filter" and "Burn the Worm", contain a harder industrial edge no doubt influenced by having recently worked together in the industrial band Black Metal Box, where Dave Couillou and Joe Yutsus met. The 1996 sessions at Park Place Studios yielded different fruit altogether, producing Dave's freeform psychedelic jazz compositions "Spiral Arm" and the title track.
The 1997-98 sessions at Psykoziz leaned back towards the electronic, employing a form of experimental sampling in tracks like "Cabin Fever" and "Dreaming in Color". And the final 1998 sessions that produced "Silk Heart" and "Flux" blended to form an industrial shoe gaze element into their sound.
There is no one specific genre to accurately describe 40armboy's body of music. It is better just to experience it without labels and with no expectations, losing yourself in the many sonic soundscapes they present, some abrasive, some soothing... all unique.
